Beyond the Blues

A great time was had by all when 'Beyond The Blues' played in the village hall on Saturday. The evening lasted nearly three hours and was just terrific. They have put together what can only be described as a 'roadshow' with several sets highlighting different styles of music though the majority of the concert was the blues.

Felt like some autumn colour. These leaves were in a friends garden.

The Aspect Prize Finalists Exhibition

These two photos were taken in The Fleming Collection gallery just before the opening of the finalists exhibition. It's a lovely gallery and the work looked great.

Graham Murray

This is 'City Lights' by the late Graham Murray. Graham was an art teacher who taught in and around Glasgow. During the war Stanley Spencer lodged with Graham and his wife Charlotte and worked on his shipyard drawings and paintings.

Graham exhibited regularly with the RGI and in several galleries up and down the country.
This painting belongs to his niece Elsie in Australia.

Mansfield Park gallery

Coming soon is an exhibition at the Mansfield Park Gallery in Glasgow. I'll have more details in a day or two but the painting of the old pick up truck will be one of the works on show.

The Aspect Prize opening

Since winning, Patricia has had several offers including being asked to do some paintings of oil refineries.

Aspect Prize Winner

Actor Alex Norton with Aspect Prize winner Patricia Cain in front of the painting which The Fleming Collection have added to their collection of Scottish Art. The opening was a great success and the winner somewhat overwhelmed.

This was the only way to reach friends Howard and Eileen in their cottage. We had a wonderful evening.

Winter Moon

The moon has been quite spectacular over the last couple of weeks. Walking at night is a treat whilst moonlight illuminates the snowy landscape.

The last of our four finalists is Scot Sinclair. Scot is from Johnston and teaches out in Louisiana.

The third of our finalists is Paul Kennedy. This is a portrait of his brother Adam.

Alec Galloway

Better known as a stained glass artist, Alec Galloway's paintings are made up of layers collage and paint weaving together the stories and myths of life connected to the sea in the West of Scotland.

Patricia Cain

Over the next few days I will put up images from The Aspect Prize Finalists. Today it is Patricia Cain who has completed a series of paintings on the construction of the new Riverside Museum in Glasgow.

My thoughts are in London today as yet another exhibition opens. Came across this picture of a tourist shop in Leicester Square.

This is my other painting in the Howard De Walden Competition exhibition. It's a very small painting.

The Howard De Walden Estate Competition

Earlier this year fifty artists from across the UK were invited to take part in the Howard De Walden Estate Competition. The artists were asked to come up with two works based on the London Borough of Marylebone with the finished 100 works to be displayed in Thompson's Gallery in Marylebone High Street. There are three prizes to be judged by a panel of well known people who either live or work in Marylebone.
The work is all done, the exhibition is hanging and the judging takes place tomorrow.
It's a fascinating exhibition which covers a wide range subject matter from Lords Cricket ground, local shops, street scenes, the canal, Regents Park, buildings both exterior and interior, markets, parks and more
'Canal Barge' above is one of my two paintings and I'm happy to say that it is already sold.

Kind Fund Raising Exhibition

Last night at The Glasgow Art Club saw the opening of the Kind Fund Raising Exhibition. Kind is a charity that gives children from deprived households the chance to have a holiday and see another side of life. There are 148 paintings and sculptures on display. A quarter of which sold yesterday. There is a second chance to see the work today from 3pm until 7pm.

Dunlop Village Hall

There is a lovely wee exhibition in the Village Hall Cafe until Christmas. Sketches, drawings and paintings by myself, Liz Knox, Claire Paterson, Ellen Ostler, Frank Paterson and Nina Russell. The cafe is open on Tuesdays and Fridays.
