Like this colourful graffiti. Might try and use some of it in my paintings.

Mist and grey skies in the late afternoon

Monday, 21 March 2011

This old barn wall outside the village is being prepared for a coat
of whitewash. It looks good against the blue sky.

A walk on the beach in Troon...wind blown salt spray, seaweed, sand
and oh so cold with snow on hills.
Then to The Wee Hurry for lunch. Tucked in beside the harbour so
the fish is as fresh as it could be, The Wee Hurry gets my vote as
the best fish and chip shop ever.

There's something very satisfying about sorting my picture hanging
material into neat boxes.

New Mexico

In the back of my store cupboard I came across this painting of the
Picuris Pueblo. The day we spent there was fascinating. The Picuris
people were delighted that I was prepared to pay the $25 for
permission to draw and paint. Sitting there drawing the scene above,
a mini tornado thingy whipped across the square sending sketch pad
flying and mouth and eyes were full of dust.
The next morning I had to visit a doctor to get treatment for my
eye.
The joys of working outdoors.

Artist Norman Kirkham cornered in his framers studio whilst waiting
for his courier to turn up and collect all the paintings stashed against
the wall. Norman has an exhibition opening this weekend to celebrate
his 75th year. The exhibition is at Roger Billcliffe's Gallery in Glasgow.
Norman's framer and photographer is Ken Mellin at The Pictures.

Thought I'd put this photo up as I'm currently working on a painting
which is based on this landscape high in the hills inland from the sea
in South Africa. Haven't quite cracked it yet so need to spend much
more time painting. Before anything else happens I have to let this
first layer of paint dry. Then I can have a good think and move forward.
