Brian McLuskey

Another of my favourite young artists is Brian McLuskey

who graduated from Glasgow School of Art about two

years ago. His portraiture is fresh and exciting.

Autumn colours

In those rare moments when the sun shines in the West of Scotland

the garden comes alive.

Claire Paterson

Had a visit from Claire Paterson who was showing me some

of her new work. It's three years since Claire graduated

from Glasgow School of Art winning the Stephen Campbell

Award.

On Friday the sun shone for a few hours and the autumn

flowers loved it.

It's so wet that poppy seeds are germinating inside the

seed heads. I've never seen that before.

Troon

The tide was out when we walked on the beach at Troon.

Lunch at The Wee Hurry. Hmmmmm.

Laura Hunter at Unlimited Studios

Laura Hunter is currently exhibiting in IOTA, Unlimited Studios,

25 Hyndland Street, Glasgow G11 5QE

This is a great space, right on the corner...lovely light.

Being Laura's first solo show, it's an exciting time for her

and a show very much worth seeing. A trip to Cuba is the

inspiration for some of the paintings, as are travels in

Scotland.

Glasgow Art Club

Opening this evening is an exhibition by Diploma holders from the

Paisley Art Institute of which I am one. I have four paintings including

the two above. The exhibition runs through October.

For the next few weeks I have some paintings and drawings on

show in Clerkland Farm's Cheese Shop and Tea Room.

Halfway between Dunlop and Stewarton, it's a great place to

go for a cup of tea and a scone or lunch.

Already sold one painting on show so hurry along.

The weather has been too wet and windy to leave these

Tigridia out in the open. They open for one day only.

Still on an Edinburgh theme, it was relief to find that works

inside the grounds did not suffer the same spelling mix

ups as seen in the last post. Mind you...might have been fun.

I'm highly entertained by the lettering on this fence.

It is supposed to read Scottish National Gallery Of

Modern Art. Instead it reads Scottish Natiof

Gallery Onal Modern Art.

It could be that this is supposed to be concrete

poetry and an artwork in itself though the one on

the other side reads correctly. Could it possibly

be a mistake by council workmen? Has anyone

noticed?

David Mach

The exhibition currently running at the City Arts Centre

in Edinburgh is David Mach's exhibition on the King

James Bible 'Precious Light'. This is a massive exhibition

with displays of huge collages and sculpture. The best

bits for me were the very well made figures of Christ

fashioned from clothes hangers and the fact that David

Mach has moved his studio from London to the Arts Centre.

When the Scotsman's Steps in Edinburgh needed refurbishing

they gave the job to artist Martin Creed. Well worth a visit.

That was quite a storm. In the great scheme of things we are fine.

The roof is still on, we weren't flooded and no trees hit the house.

It was the poor old garden that took the worst of it.
