These wonderful works were created by Richard Strachan who was an Aspect Prize Winner a few years ago. Richard currently works in Edinburgh and teaches part time at Edinburgh School of Art. He exhibited these and other works over the Festival period at the Red Door Gallery. Watch out for his work there. He also exhibits at The Lost Gallery.

What to make of this?

OK...thought you would like this one. There I was wandering through the countryside in sunny Portugal looking for things to draw when I came across this. Is it a warning to stay clear? Is it a fertility sign proclaiming that the sheep and goats on this farm are the best in the area? Is it something to do with Portugese voodoo? Fertility superstition?

Well, I kept walking and no-one fired arrows or blow pipe darts or set dogs on me so I'm lucky not to have been spotted, attacked by randy goats or ranted at by the farmer. Guess we will never know. It's the only one of its type I saw.

Inverarity Wine Exhibition

Opening tonight at the Inverarity Wine Vaults in Bath Street, Glasgow....an exhibition of paintings of Beaujolais. Six paintings..all mine. The exhibition runs through September. Inverarity Wines is a fabulous place with an excellent selection of fine wines. Worth going to have a look at both the wine and the paintings.

Exhibition in Richmond

With the exhibition now up and running and only a week before the official opening I'm putting more of the paintings up to entice you along. I'll be there next Thursday evening and on Saturday 12th Sept between midday and 3pm.

SAGRES

This is a large giclee print I've been working on taken from a photograph of a beer can found on a dusty lane in Portugal. The finished image is 35 inches high on a sheet of paper some 50 inches high so it looks spectacular in its frame.

Fed up with putting on paintings. This is going up an escalator on the London Underground.

New England Exhibition, Richmond Hill Gallery

Today the gallery start hanging the exhibition. An exciting thought. I won't see it until next week and can hardly wait. This is the boat builders shed in North Haven, Penobscot Bay, Maine.

This wee painting is based on the field in front of a lovely house in Maine owned by a lady called Peggy.

September exhibition in the Richmond Hill Gallery

This painting is of Orrs Island from Baillie Island in Maine. The exhibition catalogue is being printed today so the gallery should have it by the beginning of next week. Watch out too for the RA Magazine which comes out this week. The exhibition is advertised within.

The weather has been so ghastly recently that I thought a sunny garden picture was best for morale.

Reckon this is smokers revenge. Stuffing cigarettes into air vents in buildings. It made me laugh.

Another New England image to tempt you to come along and see my exhibition at The Richmond Hill Gallery from September 10th. This was a quiet early morning on Deer Island in Maine.

Opening tonight at The House for an Art Lover in Glasgow is an exhibition of paintings by several members of The Paisley Art Institute. Opening 6-8pm. I'll be there. The painting of the road amongst the vineyards near Moiré in Beaujolais will be there too. Exhibition runs until 21st September.

Went to see the Plinth in Trafalgar Square the week before last and was lucky enough to see artist Peter McNiven painting a self portrait. He received a well deserved round of applause from the public at the end of his hour. Well done that man.

Here's another New England painting to whet your appetite for the September exhibition at The Richmond Hill Gallery.
This one is 'Boats at Stonington'.
Stonington is on Deer Island in the north of Penobscot Bay and is so called because it was once the site of a massive stone quarry. Stone from here was used to build the Brooklyn Bridge. These days Stonington is a lobster fishing town.

These wonderful garden chairs are on sale in a garden centre in London. Came across them last week.

Today the designs for the catalogue of my new exhibition are going to the printer. This is an exhibition of paintings of New England which is in The Richmond Hill Gallery, Richmond, Surrey in September.

The painting is of a boat builders shed in North Haven, Penobscot Bay.

The Glasgow Show 2009 on Glasgow Green was great fun. Lots to see and do. Do not try any of the above!

My friend Shady in California unearthed a whole pile of old photographs taken in England way back. Interesting images. He's thinking of donating them to a collection over here. Someone somewhere would probably recognise the people. I like the one with Blackpool Tower.
