Hutcheson's Grammar School Annual Art Exhibition

OK, I'm interrupting my planned visual tour of South Africa...I know it only started yesterday but sometimes you've just got to go with what comes along. What came along last night was the Annual Art Exhibition at Hutcheson's Grammar School in Glasgow. It's always good but this year is exceptional. You've got enthusiastic and talented teachers and enthusiastic and talented students. It's a huge exhibition covering a wide area of creativity. No wonder so many of their young students get places in the various art schools. Well done Hutchie . I'm an ex pupil...it was SO different in my day...Art consisted of one still life, one figure composition, one design and a written paper. Thank goodness for the creative freedoms enjoyed today.

South Africa

From painting and printmaking we have Georgia Jean McDowell. Terrific works on a variety of surfaces. A mixture of print and paint. Selling well. Girls got a future.

Degree Show...the Yellow Van

First time ever....The Yellow Van selling a variety of drawings, sculptures, badges and all sorts at vastly inflated prices...like a pound! or maybe three pounds or...if your really pushing the boat out £25. Well done. Everyone should buy something here.

The Aspect Prize 2010

Here's a glimpse of The Aspect Prize Entrants Exhibition during hanging. Yesterday was judging day and four finalists were chosen from the 150 or so entries. The finalists will be announced at the opening of the exhibition tomorrow evening in the Paisley Museum and Art Galleries, High Street, Paisley. Starts at 7pm.......

The Richmond Hill Gallery

It's exhibition time again. This weekend my solo show previews at The Richmond Hill Gallery, 26 Richmond Hill. The official opening is next Tuesday.
Based on a trip to the Algarve last summer, the exhibition has over thirty paintings and runs until the middle of June.

Still following the cloud theme, this is the Green Point Stadium in Cape Town which has been built for the forthcoming World Cup and is inspired by the cloud that clings to Table Mountain.

This is the South African National Gallery in Cape Town with Table Mountain behind shrouded in cloud. Clouds of one sort or another are obviously going to be a theme for a day or two.

You might well be wondering why my blog has lain dormant for so long. The answer lies in Iceland.
We went to South Africa for two weeks. Two weeks of sun, drawing and photographs. Headed to Cape Town for the last two days and bang, the volcano decided that it had been dormant long enough and wanted to be seen and heard. Cape Town's two days turned into nearly seventeen days before we managed to get a flight. We have been back a week but I had so much catching up to do preparing for my exhibition in London (which previews this weekend) that I'm afraid my blog suffered.

But now I'm back! Aha!

Have to say that the extra time in Cape Town was most enjoyable and lots of ideas for paintings have settled into my head. I'll start painting soon. In the meantime there are other projects to get through...not least the exhibition itself.

Solo show: The Richmond Hill Gallery opening Tuesday 18th may. Previewing this coming weekend. 31 paintings in this exhibition. Runs until mid June.

Also....a Scottish Masters Exhibition at The Manor House Gallery in Chipping Norton which opens next week. 5 paintings there.

I thought I would leave you with a painting to contemplate. Called 'Still Life, Biarritz'. I've been thinking about it and want to paint more on that theme. This was one I particularly like.

Studio mess

Nothing quite like studio mess. I love the mess in other artists studios...it's like a wee goldmine of personal quirks and working habits and colour. This is part of my mess.

Snow

It snowed.....there's a blizzard out there and I have to get to Glasgow! Aaaaargh. Very tempting to put the kettle on and hunker down in the studio but I have to go.

This may be the smallest water garden in the northern hemisphere but froggie loves it.
